KAMPALA — Hon. Eng. Ssebbugga Kimeze, Member of Parliament for Budyebo County in Nakasongola District, has called for urgent government intervention to address road bottlenecks affecting his constituency and surrounding areas.

Speaking in Parliament on Thursday, Kimeze first commended the Minister for Works and Transport for the detailed presentation on the state of the country’s road sector before offering recommendations based on his professional background as an engineer.

He urged the Ministry of Works and Transport to ensure that all roads remain motorable, regardless of whether they are paved, gravel or earth roads. He stressed the need for minimum standards of motorability across the entire road network.

“We should have some minimum levels of motorability on every road,” Kimeze said, noting that while roads with higher-standard surfaces such as asphalt may require greater investment, basic gravel and earth roads should also remain passable.

The legislator specifically highlighted the Nakasongola–Lwampanga road, where he said critical bottlenecks have developed at Muhunami and Kabasongwa, affecting the movement of people and goods.

Kimeze explained that the affected road is important not only to residents of Nakasongola District but also to travellers connecting to the Lango sub-region through the Zengebbe Ferry.

He described the Zengebbe–Namasere ferry route as “very, very important” to the national road network, citing its role in strengthening inter-regional connectivity and supporting economic activity.

He therefore called on the government to prioritise the removal of the identified bottlenecks to restore smooth movement and ensure that communities and road users can benefit from a continuous and functional transport network.

Kimeze concluded by emphasising the need for practical engineering solutions to improve motorability across all categories of roads in Budyebo County and other parts of the country.
