KAMPALA — Dr. Mercy Faith Lakisa, Woman Member of Parliament representing Alebtong District in Uganda’s 12th Parliament and Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, has highlighted the immense potential of Uganda’s youth when given the right tools, opportunities and supportive platforms.

Lakisa made the remarks while participating in engagements focused on youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, peacebuilding and the responsible use of digital platforms.

She joined Action 4 Health Uganda for the #POWERCohort5 Demo Day, an event celebrating young women entrepreneurs who are developing innovative local solutions and building sustainable businesses.

The Minister commended the creativity, determination and entrepreneurial spirit demonstrated by the young women, emphasizing the importance of creating opportunities that enable young people to transform their ideas into viable enterprises.
Lakisa noted that supporting youth entrepreneurship can contribute to employment creation, innovation and improved livelihoods, particularly when young people have access to the necessary skills, resources and mentorship.
Later, she participated in the National Peace Leadership Conference, co-hosted by the Refugee Law Project and Interpeace, where leaders and stakeholders discussed emerging challenges affecting peace and social cohesion.
The discussions centered on countering misinformation, disinformation and online hate speech, which can undermine social trust and pose challenges to peaceful communities and national stability.
Lakisa’s participation in the two engagements highlighted the importance of empowering young people while promoting responsible digital citizenship, social cohesion and peacebuilding across Uganda.
