KAMPALA — Mukono District Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Sheila Amaniyo has called for urgent Government intervention in the longstanding land dispute between the Buganda Land Board and Mukono District Local Government.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Amaniyo said the dispute has continued to affect the district’s operations and development, despite the matter already being before court.

She explained that attempts to resolve the dispute through negotiations have not made meaningful progress, leaving the district without a clear direction on the contested land.

“We need Government intervention,” Amaniyo said, stressing that the matter requires a coordinated solution to end the uncertainty surrounding the land.

The legislator argued that resolving the dispute is important for strengthening the operations and independence of local governments, particularly as Government continues to promote effective service delivery at the local level.

Amaniyo therefore appealed to the Government to intervene and bring the concerned parties together to find a lasting solution to the longstanding dispute.

Her appeal received a response from Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, who directed the Ministry of Lands to visit Mukono and engage the concerned parties with the aim of resolving the matter.

The directive places the Ministry of Lands at the centre of efforts to address the dispute, with Government expected to engage the Buganda Land Board and Mukono District Local Government.

The development follows Amaniyo’s intervention in Parliament as she sought Government action on the land issue, which she said requires urgent attention to provide clarity and enable Mukono District Local Government to effectively plan and carry out its responsibilities.
