RUKIGA — State Minister for Gender and Culture, Hon. Merry Kutesa, has officially launched the six-month Emikono Yeitu skilling programme in Rukiga District, a community empowerment initiative sponsored by Rukiga Woman Member of Parliament, Dr. Sylvia Alinitwe.
The programme, which is being launched today at Kyerero Playground, is designed to equip community members with practical and hands-on skills that can help them improve household incomes, create employment opportunities and build greater self-reliance.
Dr. Sylvia Alinitwe has placed skills development at the centre of the initiative, with Emikono Yeitu seeking to give beneficiaries practical knowledge that can be turned into sustainable sources of income within their communities.
The launch has attracted residents, local leaders, political figures, guests and other stakeholders who have gathered to witness the beginning of the six-month programme and its contribution to community development in Rukiga.
Minister Merry Kutesa is presiding over the launch as the chief guest, bringing together government leadership and community efforts in a programme focused on empowering people through practical skills.
The initiative comes at a time when skills development remains an important pathway for communities seeking to expand household incomes and create opportunities for young people, women and other community members.
Rukiga County Member of Parliament, Adv. Kiconco Patrick Katabazi, has also participated in the launch, joining Dr. Sylvia Alinitwe, Minister Kutesa and other leaders in supporting the community-focused programme.
Hon. Annet Mugisha and other leaders and guests are also attending the event, which continues to draw residents eager to learn more about the opportunities that Emikono Yeitu is expected to provide.
The six-month programme is expected to give beneficiaries practical skills that can be applied beyond the training sessions, with the broader goal of enabling participants to use their knowledge to generate income and strengthen their livelihoods.
