DOKOLO DISTRICT — State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, Hon. Dr. Mercy Faith Lakisa, has engaged youth leaders from across the Acholi–Lango region, calling for greater unity, solidarity and collective responsibility in driving sustainable development.
The engagement brought together dynamic youth leaders representing all 19 districts of Acholi–Lango for discussions aimed at strengthening connections, reflecting on the region’s development priorities and charting a transformative path for the future.
Lakisa emphasized that young people should be at the centre of development, urging leaders to create an environment where every young person can identify their potential, access emerging opportunities and actively contribute to the progress of their communities.
She noted that when young people combine their energy, ideas and talents around a common vision, they can become a powerful force for regional development and national growth.
The Minister’s youth engagement was complemented by her participation in the FUFA Drum semi-final between Lango and Bunyoro Provinces at Dokolo Technical Institute Grounds. The match was played on Saturday, September 26, with the two sides settling for a goalless draw.
Lakisa commended Bunyoro Province for its strong performance and determination, while congratulating Lango Province for a competitive display in a match that showcased the talent, commitment and sportsmanship of players from both sides.
She observed that sporting events such as the FUFA Drum provide more than competition, creating opportunities for communities from different regions to interact, celebrate their heritage and build stronger social bonds.
Lakisa said the weekend’s activities reflected the importance of empowering young people while using platforms such as sport and cultural engagement to strengthen connections across communities, adding that collective action remains essential to unlocking the development potential of the Acoli–Lango region and Uganda as a whole.
