BIOGRAPHY- Hon Nakiyi Julius was Born in 1981 in Sironko District to Odurub Sofath and Janet Nagoodi, Julius Nakiyi grew up in a modest Bagisu family of Waga ancestry. From an early age, education became both a challenge and a major opportunity that would shape his future.
He began his primary education at Wogga Primary School (West), where he studied from Primary One to Primary Seven. For two years, his father was able to send him to Navarro Boarding Primary School. However, when financial difficulties returned, Julius went back to Wogga, where he completed his primary education.
In the Primary Leaving Examinations, he emerged as the best candidate at his school, scoring 11 aggregates. He was among only two pupils who obtained a first grade that year, with the second-best candidate scoring 12 aggregates.
In 1995, Nakiyi joined Masaba Secondary School in Budadiri for Senior One. He quickly distinguished himself academically and consistently topped his class throughout his secondary education.
His exceptional ability in mathematics earned him the nickname “Computer” among fellow students. By Senior Three, he had already completed the entire secondary-school mathematics syllabus, including calculus, and began helping Senior Four students with their studies.
He also travelled to Mbale to facilitate revision seminars for Senior Four candidates from different schools. When the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results were released, Nakiyi emerged as the best-performing student in the wider district, scoring eight aggregates.
He proceeded to King’s College Budo for his A-level education, initially studying Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics (BCM), with the ambition of becoming a doctor.
However, during a period marked by doctors’ strikes, friends persuaded him to reconsider his choice of career. He subsequently dropped Biology and switched to Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM), completing his A-level studies with an A in Mathematics, an A in Chemistry and a B in Physics.
In 2001, Nakiyi joined Makerere University to study Civil Engineering. Four years later, in 2005, he graduated as a qualified civil engineer.
His academic journey eventually developed into a career in engineering before he ventured into public service.
Today, Hon. Eng. Julius Nakiyi serves as the Member of Parliament for Budadiri East Constituency in Sironko District.
His journey from the classrooms of Wogga Primary School to Makerere University and eventually to the national Parliament is a story of academic excellence, discipline, resilience and determination.
