WAKISO — Wakiso District is stepping up efforts to improve its road network, with the District Roads Committee focusing on practical measures to make roads more accessible, safer and more durable for residents

The committee, chaired by Wakiso Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Betty Ethel Naluyima, held a meeting at the Wakiso District headquarters on Thursday, September 17, 2026, to review road-related priorities and discuss strategies for improving the district’s road network.

Among the key interventions discussed were bush clearing, de-silting of drainage channels and improving drainage systems along roads across the district.

The measures are intended to improve road conditions, reduce the effects of heavy rains and help extend the lifespan of roads by ensuring that water can properly drain away.

Better roads in Wakiso are also expected to improve connectivity between communities and ease the movement of people and goods, including access to Kampala and other surrounding areas.

The meeting comes as Wakiso continues to implement and monitor several road projects, with district authorities placing emphasis on road quality, proper drainage and timely completion.

The committee also discussed the need to address drainage challenges affecting roads, particularly during the rainy season, when poor water drainage can accelerate road damage and make movement difficult.

As Chairperson of the Wakiso District Roads Committee, Naluyima is expected to continue working with district technical teams and other stakeholders to identify priority areas and strengthen road maintenance and development across the district.

The committee’s efforts are aimed at creating a more reliable road network that can support residents, businesses and communities while improving connectivity within Wakiso and easing access to Kampala.

With Wakiso continuing to experience rapid population growth and urban expansion, effective road maintenance and drainage management remain important to the district’s movement, trade and overall development.
