KAMPALA – Jinja South Division East Member of Parliament and Chief Opposition Whip, Hon. Paul Mwiru, challenged the government to provide a comprehensive account of road construction and infrastructure development concerns raised by legislators, urging the responsible minister to present a detailed report to Parliament.
While contributing to proceedings on the floor of Parliament, Mwiru questioned the government’s approach to responding to concerns about road construction, saying ministerial statements had increasingly been characterised by repeated promises to address the challenges without providing sufficient details.
He observed that ministers often appeared before Parliament with assurances that action would be taken, but argued that such commitments needed to be followed by clear explanations and documented progress.
Mwiru therefore sought the indulgence of the responsible minister to prepare a comprehensive report outlining the issues raised concerning road construction and infrastructure development.
He further called for a formal response statement to be presented before Parliament, saying this would enable legislators to examine the government’s position and obtain clarity on the outstanding concerns.
The Chief Opposition Whip argued that a detailed report would provide Parliament with an opportunity to properly scrutinise the challenges affecting road infrastructure and establish the extent to which government commitments had been implemented.
He emphasised that legislators needed substantive information rather than general assurances to effectively engage the government on issues affecting infrastructure development and service delivery.
Mwiru’s submission highlighted the importance of ministerial accountability, particularly in ensuring that concerns raised by Members of Parliament received clear responses and were followed by appropriate action.
He maintained that a comprehensive government response would place Parliament in a better position to assess the road construction challenges, follow up on outstanding commitments and engage in meaningful debate on infrastructure development.
