KAMPALA, UGANDA — Budadiri East Member of Parliament Hon. Julius Nakiyi has asked the Minister of Education and Sports to table a comprehensive list of 121 traditional schools scheduled for renovation to enable legislators to monitor the implementation of the planned works.

Nakiyi made the call on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, during a parliamentary debate on ministerial statements concerning the performance of the Education, Sports and Skills sub-programme for the 2025/2026 financial year and the health sector.

The legislator said providing Parliament with the list would help Members of Parliament identify the schools earmarked for renovation and follow up on the progress of the works in their respective areas.

He emphasised the importance of making the information available to MPs so that they can establish whether the planned renovations are being implemented as expected and bring any emerging concerns to the attention of the responsible authorities.

Nakiyi’s request places emphasis on parliamentary oversight of government programmes, particularly those involving the rehabilitation of traditional schools that serve learners from different communities across the country.

By asking the ministry to present the list, the Budadiri East MP sought to ensure that legislators have clear information about the institutions selected for renovation and can track progress against the government’s commitments.

The proposed disclosure would also provide MPs with a reference point for engaging education officials on the status of individual schools, including the progress of renovation works and any implementation challenges that may arise.

His intervention came during a broader parliamentary review of government performance in education, sports, skills development and health, placing the issue of school infrastructure within discussions on service delivery and public accountability.

Nakiyi’s call now puts the focus on the Ministry of Education and Sports to table the list of the 121 schools, which would allow Parliament to follow up on the planned renovations and assess progress as the government implements its education-sector commitments.
