IBANDA — Ibanda District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Jovrine Kaliisa Kyomukama, has contributed Shs 10 million towards the completion of the proposed Shs 6.6 billion four-storeyed Diamond Jubilee Skilling Centre at Ibanda Secondary School.
The centre is being developed to house vocational and innovation laboratories aimed at equipping students with practical, hands-on skills to promote self-employment, entrepreneurship and innovation.
Hon. Jovrine made the contribution yesterday during celebrations to mark 60 years of distinguished service in education and character formation at Ibanda Secondary School.
The celebrations were held at the school grounds in Ibanda Municipality and featured a Thanksgiving Mass led by His Grace Archbishop Lambert Bainomugisha of the Mbarara Archdiocese.
While handing over the contribution, Hon. Jovrine commended the Catholic Church and Archbishop Bainomugisha for their continued support towards education. She also appreciated the Government of Uganda for supporting faith-founded schools, noting that the partnership has contributed significantly to the development of the education sector and the country at large.
Hon. Jovrine pledged to continue supporting the school’s development initiatives, particularly the ongoing skilling-centre project, which she said would contribute to improved learning outcomes and better performance among students.
She also commended the Ibanda Secondary School Board of Governors and the Catholic Church for laying a strong foundation that has enabled the school to contribute to the transformation of learners and the wider community over the years.
The celebrations were graced by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as Chief Guest, represented by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa.
As part of the celebrations, President Museveni also contributed Shs 30 million towards the school’s development projects.
The Diamond Jubilee Skilling Centre is expected to strengthen practical skills training at the school while giving students greater opportunities to develop skills that can support employment, innovation and entrepreneurship.
