KAMPALA — Rukiga District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe, on Sunday joined fellow leaders, members of the business community, well-wishers and the Makerere University community in a charity marathon aimed at supporting students with disabilities.
The marathon was organised to raise funds towards the purchase of assistive learning equipment for students with disabilities at Makerere University, with the goal of promoting equal access to education and creating a more inclusive learning environment.
Dr. Alinaitwe was among the leaders and participants who turned up to support the initiative, demonstrating her commitment to causes that promote education, inclusion and opportunities for students facing different challenges.
The event attracted a strong turnout of participants from different sectors of society, bringing together leaders, students, professionals, business people and other well-wishers in a show of solidarity with students with disabilities.
The Chief Runner at the event was the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among, who joined participants in supporting the fundraising drive and drawing attention to the importance of inclusive education.
The funds raised through the marathon will go towards acquiring assistive learning tools and other study equipment required by students with disabilities at Makerere University.
The initiative is expected to contribute to a more supportive academic environment where students with disabilities can access the necessary resources to participate fully in university education and pursue their academic ambitions.
Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe’s participation added her voice and support to the broader call for inclusive education, as leaders and citizens continue to rally behind initiatives that seek to ensure that no student is disadvantaged because of disability.
