FORT PORTAL — A brand-new vehicle has reportedly arrived at the palace and is set to be handed over to Tooro Kingdom’s Omusuuga, Charles Kayondo Kamurasi Akiiki, in recognition of his important role within the kingdom’s royal institution.
The arrival of the vehicle comes at a significant time for Tooro Kingdom, which is preparing for the coronation of Prince Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I as the 13th Omukama of Tooro on September 29, 2026, at Karuziika Palace in Fort Portal.
Omusuuga Charles Kayondo Kamurasi is the head of the Babiito Royal Clan, the royal lineage from which the kings of Tooro trace their ancestry. His position gives him a central responsibility in matters concerning the kingdom’s royal family and succession.
In the wake of the passing of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV on August 27, the Omusuuga took a leading role in guiding the traditional processes surrounding the late king’s funeral and the succession of the throne.
On September 9, 2026, the Babiito Royal Clan, under the leadership of Omusuuga Kamurasi, announced Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma as the new Omukama of Tooro. The decision was subsequently presented to the Rukurato, the kingdom’s supreme council.
The development has once again placed the Omusuuga at the centre of one of the most important moments in Tooro’s modern history, as the kingdom moves from mourning the loss of King Oyo to preparing for the installation of a new monarch.
