SANGA, KIRUHURA — Nyabushozi County Member of Parliament, Hon. Wilson Kajwengye, has joined residents of Kibega Cell in Sanga Town Council, Kiruhura District, in a community cleaning exercise held as part of Uganda’s National Cleaning Day.
Kajwengye joined his neighbours in cleaning the town, participating in activities that included desilting and unblocking drainage pipes, removing polythene bags, collecting plastic waste and clearing other forms of garbage from the community.
The exercise is part of the National Cleaning Day initiative, which provides an opportunity for communities across Uganda to collectively improve sanitation, manage waste and protect their surroundings.
Speaking after taking part in the exercise, Hon. Kajwengye described community cleaning as a noble cause that should encourage every citizen to actively participate in keeping their surroundings clean.
He particularly raised concern over the continued use and careless disposal of polythene bags and plastic materials, describing them as a serious environmental nuisance that threatens communities and the wellbeing of future generations.
Kajwengye called for greater responsibility in waste management, urging residents to avoid littering and to properly dispose of plastics and other waste. He emphasized that keeping communities clean should not be viewed as the responsibility of government alone, but as a shared civic responsibility.
The cleaning activities in Kibega Cell also highlighted the importance of maintaining open drainage systems. Removing plastics and other waste from drainage channels helps prevent blockages and supports cleaner and safer public spaces.
As Uganda continues with the National Cleaning Day campaign, Hon. Kajwengye’s participation in Sanga adds to the call for citizens to turn environmental cleanliness into a daily habit. His message was clear: responsible waste disposal and collective community action are essential to protecting Uganda’s environment today and safeguarding it for generations to come.
