Kampala , November 1, 2026 — Former Rukiga District Woman MP aspirant and NUP Deputy President for Western Uganda, Hon. Jolly Jackline Tukamushaba, popularly known as Omuhereza Murungi, has joined NUP Secretary-General David Lewis Rubongoya and other party leaders in the party’s tree-planting campaign as the opposition party marks Bobi Wine Solidarity Day.

Tukamushaba took part in the activity on Sunday as NUP members across the country participated in a nationwide tree-planting campaign organised as part of the party’s monthly Bobi Wine Solidarity Day activities.

The initiative is intended to encourage communities to take practical action in protecting the environment, with NUP leaders calling on supporters and other Ugandans to plant trees in their communities.

For Tukamushaba, the activity also provided an opportunity to join other NUP leaders in a community-focused initiative beyond political mobilisation, highlighting the importance of environmental protection and sustainable development.

Tukamushaba has remained an active figure within the NUP in Western Uganda. She was appointed Deputy President of the party in charge of the Western Region in January 2025, a position through which she has continued to participate in party activities across the region.

She later contested for the Rukiga District Woman Member of Parliament seat on the NUP ticket in the 2026 general elections, where she emerged as one of the opposition party’s key political figures in the district.

Her participation in the tree-planting exercise comes as NUP expands its monthly solidarity activities to include community initiatives aimed at addressing issues affecting ordinary Ugandans.

The party has said the tree-planting campaign is part of its wider effort to promote environmental conservation, with supporters encouraged to make tree planting a practical contribution to their communities.

Tukamushaba’s participation therefore adds a local face to the nationwide environmental campaign, as NUP leaders and supporters across Uganda mark November 1 through activities intended to combine solidarity, community engagement and environmental responsibility.
