KIRUHURA: Nyabushozi County Member of Parliament Hon. Wilson Kajwengye Twinomugisha joined leaders and stakeholders from Macuncu Parish in Kinoni Subcounty, Kiruhura District, for a community engagement on government development programmes and challenges affecting local productivity.

The engagement was held on October 31, 2026, at Camp Kanyamisisa at the residence of Dr. Orugumaho, where Kajwengye joined local leaders and stakeholders to discuss the progress of the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga and other government empowerment and poverty eradication programmes.

During the meeting, stakeholders raised concerns affecting agricultural production in the area, including limited access to water for production, lack of affordable irrigation technologies and inadequate availability of coffee seedlings.

The leaders also discussed the size and population of Macuncu Parish, which has 12 large Local Council cells. They argued that the creation of two additional parishes would bring government programmes such as PDM closer to residents and increase access to development opportunities.
It was noted that 417 individuals in Macuncu Parish had benefited from PDM funding, with each beneficiary receiving Shs1 million.
However, leaders raised concerns over delays in PDM loan repayments, saying beneficiaries faced difficulties understanding the technical aspects of the repayment process.
Kajwengye and the stakeholders agreed to organise a constituency-wide PDM workshop, where the national PDM coordination team would sensitise beneficiaries on repayment requirements and help address challenges affecting the programme.
The MP also encouraged residents to embrace regular and mandatory cattle vaccination against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), remain vigilant against livestock theft and take greater responsibility for protecting the environment.
Kajwengye further urged residents to reduce the use of polythene bags, collect plastic bottles and maintain cleaner surroundings. The meeting also ended with an agreement to promote tree planting as part of efforts to protect the environment.
The engagement brought together Kajwengye and local leaders and stakeholders to address issues affecting livelihoods, agricultural production, government programme implementation and community development in Macuncu Parish.
