KAMPALA, UGANDA — Kyaka Central Member of Parliament Tom Bright Amooti has raised the alarm over reported murders and escalating insecurity in Kyegegwa District, calling for urgent intervention by government and security agencies to protect residents and restore public confidence.

Hon. Tom Bright Amooti presents concerns over rising insecurity and reported murders in Kyegegwa District on the floor of Parliament

Amooti brought the matter to the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, in a submission titled “Escalating Insecurity and Brutal Murders in Kyegegwa District.” The submission, addressed to the Speaker of Parliament, invokes Rule 56 of Parliament’s Rules of Procedure and presents the reported killings as a matter requiring national attention.

The legislator expressed concern that the reported deaths have left families grieving and communities living in fear, particularly in Kyegegwa Sub-county and Kyegegwa Town Council. He called for the authorities to treat the situation with the seriousness it deserves and take appropriate steps to establish the circumstances surrounding the incidents.

According to the cases outlined in his submission, incidents have been reported in Kitende, Muhangi, Kyekakura and Nyanga, with the listed cases spanning May, July and September 2026. The reports involve victims from different families, raising concerns about the safety of residents and the need for effective investigations into the deaths.

Among the cases highlighted is the reported loss of several members of the Musomesa Doviko family in Nyanga. The account includes a Senior Two student and a mother who reportedly left behind a three-month-old baby, a development that underscores the devastating consequences of violent deaths for families and vulnerable children.

Amooti’s submission places renewed focus on the responsibility of government and security agencies to investigate the reported killings, identify those responsible where evidence permits and ensure that suspects are brought before courts of law. Residents also need clear and timely communication from the relevant authorities about investigations and measures being taken to prevent further incidents.

The concerns call for a comprehensive security response, including reviewing security gaps in affected communities, strengthening cooperation between police and local leaders, and encouraging residents to provide credible information to investigators. Authorities should also consider the needs of bereaved families and provide appropriate support as they cope with their losses.

Residents of Kyaka Central and the wider Kyegegwa District have been urged to remain calm, vigilant and united while cooperating with lawful investigations. Community members should avoid spreading unverified information, threatening people on suspicion or resorting to mob justice and retaliation, which could undermine investigations and put innocent lives at risk.

The matter now places the spotlight on the response of the responsible authorities, with residents expecting concrete action to address the reported insecurity. As the concerns raised by Amooti receive parliamentary attention, the priority remains establishing the facts behind the reported deaths, ensuring accountability through due process and strengthening protection for communities across Kyegegwa District.
