BUDADIRI EAST — Budadiri East Member of Parliament Julius Nakiyi has purchased land for the proposed construction of Butandiga Health Centre III in Butandiga Sub-county, fulfilling a pre-election request by residents who have long sought improved access to healthcare services.

Nakiyi’s move marks a significant step towards addressing the healthcare challenges facing residents, particularly those living in hard-to-reach areas who currently depend on a small aid post that serves the sub-county’s population.

The legislator says the land will be handed over officially to the sub-county and government at a public rally in November 2026, paving the way for the next stage of efforts to establish a fully fledged Health Centre III in the area.

Nakiyi has called on the district leadership to prioritise the construction of the health facility in the district budget, arguing that the availability of land provides an opportunity for authorities to move forward with the project.
The proposed health centre is expected to improve access to essential medical services for residents of Butandiga and surrounding communities, who face challenges accessing healthcare because of the limited facilities currently available. Its construction would also bring services closer to people living far from existing health facilities.
During the land purchase signing ceremony, Nakiyi received support from local leaders who witnessed the process, including LC III Chairperson John Meru, NRM Sub-county Chairperson Godfrey Gidagui and the LC I Chairperson of Maluku Village, where the land is located.
The ceremony was also attended by councillors and Team Nakiyi Butandiga coordinators, led by George Mudulo and Joseph Wetaka Nakiyi, who joined other local leaders in recognising the development as an important step towards improving healthcare provision in the sub-county.
Local leaders expressed gratitude to Nakiyi on behalf of the people of Butandiga, commending him for responding to the community’s request and keeping his word. They noted that securing the land provides a foundation upon which the district and other relevant government authorities can build to deliver the proposed facility.
With the land secured and the official handover planned for November 2026, attention now turns to the district leadership and government to provide the necessary funding for construction. For Nakiyi, the next priority is to ensure that the land purchase translates into a functioning health facility that brings essential medical services closer to the people of Butandiga.
