Entebbe, Uganda — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has projected that Uganda’s economy will grow to nearly US$74 billion by June 2027, attributing the anticipated expansion to industrialisation, value addition, oil production and the growth of new sectors. Museveni made the remarks on Friday, October 9, 2026, while addressing Uganda’s 64th Independence Day celebrations held virtually from State House, Entebbe.
The President used the Independence Day occasion to reflect on Uganda’s economic journey since independence and outline the priorities he believes will drive the country’s next phase of transformation. He said Uganda’s economy had grown from approximately US$3.9 billion in 1986 to US$69.3 billion, with the next target being close to US$74 billion by June 2027.
The celebrations, held under the theme “Embracing Our Sovereignty with Hope and Visionary Leadership,” provided an opportunity for the President to highlight what he described as the country’s progress over the past decades.
