KIRA, WAKISO — Wakiso District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Betty Ethel Naluyima, joined residents of Gombolola Ssabaddu Kira in Kira Municipality to welcome and host the Mamba Clan leader, the Gabunga, during the installation of his representative for Ssaza Kyaddondo.

The occasion brought together members of the community and cultural leaders in a ceremony that highlighted the continued significance of cultural institutions and traditional leadership within Buganda society. Naluyima described the gathering as a momentous occasion for the community and its cultural heritage.

The installation of the Mamba Clan representative was particularly significant as it provided an opportunity for members of Ssaza Kyaddondo to participate in a cultural function centred on traditional leadership and identity. The presence of the Gabunga added prominence to the event and underscored the importance attached to clan structures in Buganda’s cultural heritage.

Naluyima said she was glad to be part of the occasion, noting that cultural gatherings of this nature provide an important platform for communities to come together, celebrate their shared heritage and strengthen social bonds.
She emphasised the importance of preserving and promoting cultural traditions, particularly at a time when communities are increasingly exposed to changing social and cultural influences. She noted that maintaining a connection to cultural heritage helps communities pass their values and traditions from one generation to another.
The legislator also highlighted the role of community participation in keeping cultural practices alive. She said ceremonies that bring together cultural leaders, community members and other stakeholders provide an opportunity for people to appreciate their history while reinforcing a sense of belonging and collective identity.
The gathering in Gombolola Ssabaddu Kira therefore served not only as an installation ceremony but also as a celebration of community and cultural heritage. For residents of the area, the occasion offered an opportunity to witness an important cultural function and reaffirm their connection to the traditions of Buganda.
