KAZO DISTRICT, UGANDA — Kazo District Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Molly Kamukama has stepped up efforts to improve household incomes and promote agricultural productivity through the distribution of coffee seedlings to farmers across several sub-counties in the district.

The coffee seedlings were delivered to residents through her aide, Robert Asiimwe, as part of an initiative aimed at encouraging coffee growing as a sustainable source of income for households in Kazo District.

The distribution exercise covered Rwemikoma, Nkungu, Migina, Buremba, Kyampangara and Burunga sub-counties, extending support to farmers in different communities and providing them with an opportunity to participate in coffee production.
The initiative is intended to strengthen household incomes by encouraging residents to invest in coffee growing, a major agricultural enterprise that can provide farmers with earnings when their crops mature and produce marketable coffee beans.
Through the initiative, Hon. Kamukama is seeking to promote agriculture as a practical pathway to improving livelihoods, particularly for rural households that depend on farming to meet their daily needs and support their families.
Coffee growing can offer farmers an opportunity to diversify their agricultural activities, reduce dependence on a single source of income and build a more reliable economic foundation over time. However, the benefits depend on proper farm management, suitable growing conditions and access to markets.
The distribution of seedlings also presents an opportunity for farmers to expand their gardens and invest in a crop with long-term income potential. With appropriate guidance on planting, weeding, pruning and pest management, beneficiaries can improve the chances of establishing productive coffee gardens.
Residents in the beneficiary sub-counties are expected to take advantage of the initiative by planting and maintaining the seedlings carefully to ensure that the support translates into productive farms and improved household earnings in the coming years.
Hon. Molly Kamukama’s coffee seedling initiative highlights the importance of agricultural support in rural development, with the overall objective of empowering farmers, strengthening household incomes and contributing to the economic growth of Kazo District.
