KAMPALA — The new Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MoDVA) and UPDF headquarters in Mbuya has reached 87 percent completion, with the landmark facility expected to be commissioned in December.
Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba commended the UPDF Engineering Brigade for its progress and commitment during a site visit on Monday.
The project, which broke ground in August 2024, is being constructed entirely by the UPDF Engineering Brigade to provide a centralised and modern command centre for Uganda’s defence leadership.
The twin-tower complex features advanced communication and command facilities, digital operational systems and improved security infrastructure, including a two-kilometre perimeter fence, modernised quarter guards and alternative access routes.
Gen Kainerugaba also assured the engineers and construction personnel that their efforts would be recognised once the project is completed and handed over.
Once commissioned, the new headquarters will replace outdated administrative facilities on Mbuya Hill and bring key civilian and military leadership functions together under one modern facility.
The CDF toured the project alongside UPDF Chief of Joint Staff Lt Gen Jack Bakasumba, MoDVA Undersecretary Edith Butuuro and other senior UPDF and ministry officials.
