KAMPALA — Rukiga District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe, co-chaired a meeting of the Parliamentary Budget Office (PACOB) Wellbeing and Productivity Cluster as lawmakers continued to scrutinise key government budget and policy priorities.

The meeting considered matters concerning the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development and its agencies, including the Uganda Land Commission (ULC) and Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

A major focus of the discussions was development planning, particularly the need for comprehensive housing plans capable of responding to Uganda’s growing demand for housing.

The meeting considered the country’s requirement for more than two million housing units, highlighting the scale of the challenge facing government as it seeks to address housing needs across the country.

Members also examined issues related to housing and urban development, with emphasis on the importance of effective planning in guiding the growth of communities and urban centres.

The discussions further considered how government resources and policies can be aligned with national development priorities to improve access to decent housing and promote sustainable settlements.

Alinaitwe and other members of the cluster assessed the role of relevant government institutions in implementing policies and programmes aimed at improving land management, housing and urban development.

The PACOB Wellbeing and Productivity Cluster continues to scrutinise budget allocations and policy priorities across different sectors, with a focus on interventions that can improve the welfare and productivity of Ugandans.
