KABALE, UGANDA — Uganda’s Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Dr Flavian Zeija, is the centre of attention today, Sunday, October 18, 2026, as St Mary’s College Rushoroza in Kabale Municipality holds its St Mary’s Day celebrations and a thanksgiving ceremony in honour of his appointment to the country’s highest judicial office.

The celebrations are taking place at St Mary’s College Rushoroza, along the Kabale–Katuna Road, bringing together religious leaders, former students, government officials, school administrators and well-wishers to celebrate one of the institution’s distinguished alumni.

Dr Zeija, who is the Guest of Honour, is being celebrated for his appointment as Chief Justice of Uganda, a milestone that has brought pride to his former school and the wider Kigezi sub-region.

The programme includes a Holy Eucharistic Mass, thanksgiving prayers and other activities marking St Mary’s Day. The celebration also offers the school community an opportunity to reflect on its contribution to educating and shaping leaders in different fields.

Dr Pius Bigirimana, the Permanent Secretary to the Judiciary, is the Guest Speaker at the function, which is expected to highlight the importance of education, faith, leadership and service to the nation.

The celebrations also have a fundraising component, with proceeds expected to support the completion of the school’s multipurpose dining hall, an initiative aimed at improving facilities for learners.

Former students, popularly known as Old Boys, alongside parents, staff and other invited guests, are joining the school community to celebrate the occasion and support the institution’s development.

Dr Zeija’s return to his former school as Chief Justice marks a significant moment for St Mary’s College Rushoroza, demonstrating the lasting connection between the institution and its alumni.

The thanksgiving ceremony is therefore serving as both a celebration of Dr Zeija’s professional achievement and an opportunity to strengthen unity, faith and development at St Mary’s College Rushoroza.
