KAMPALA — Wakiso District Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Betty Ethel Naluyima called on the government to tarmac Nakawuka Road, urging authorities to honour the legacy of former MP Charles Matovu by addressing the long-standing road infrastructure concerns affecting residents.
Naluyima made the appeal while emphasising the need to fulfil a development priority that she said had been pursued during the 11th Parliament. She stressed that improving the road would benefit residents and other road users who depend on it for their daily activities.
The legislator pointed to dust as one of the challenges that could be addressed through tarmacking, particularly during dry weather when unpaved roads become difficult for nearby communities and motorists.
She argued that upgrading Nakawuka Road would improve transport, ease the movement of people and goods, and provide more convenient access to services and businesses in the surrounding areas.
Naluyima also called on the government to recognise the importance of completing infrastructure projects that directly affect people’s livelihoods, noting that reliable roads play a significant role in supporting local economic activities.
Her appeal placed renewed emphasis on the concerns of residents who use Nakawuka Road and the need for a lasting solution to the inconvenience associated with its current condition.
The MP further highlighted the importance of honouring Charles Matovu’s legacy by advancing development priorities that were championed during his time in public service, including the call for improved road infrastructure.
She urged the responsible authorities to give the road the attention it deserved and take the necessary steps towards its tarmacking, rather than allowing residents to continue facing the challenges associated with a dusty road.
As Wakiso continues to experience growing transport demands, the improvement of local road networks remains important for connectivity, business operations and the movement of residents between communities.
Naluyima’s appeal renewed the call for government intervention on Nakawuka Road, with the proposed tarmacking expected to reduce dust, improve transport conditions and provide lasting benefits to the people who use the road.
