RUKIGA DISTRICT — Coffee farmers in Rukiga District are optimistic about receiving quality coffee seedlings from the State House Local Content Unit as preparations for the upcoming planting season gather momentum.
The optimism follows intensive training sessions conducted by Local Content experts, who equipped farmers with modern agronomic practices aimed at improving coffee production, productivity and household incomes.
The farmers have been patiently waiting for the onset of reliable rains, with many already preparing their gardens by digging planting holes and applying manure to ensure the seedlings have suitable conditions for growth.
Hon. Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe, the Woman Member of Parliament for Rukiga District, who is championing the coffee-growing initiative, has confirmed that the State House Local Content Unit is set to support the farmers with quality coffee seedlings.
The forthcoming seedlings are expected to complement the more than seven million coffee seedlings that Dr. Alinaitwe says she has already distributed to farmers across Rukiga District as part of efforts to promote coffee farming.
Dr. Alinaitwe has continued to encourage farmers to embrace coffee as a long-term income-generating enterprise, stressing the importance of proper agronomic practices from planting to harvesting.
She reiterated her commitment to supporting initiatives that can contribute to socio-economic transformation in Rukiga, particularly by empowering households to engage in productive agricultural activities.
With farmers already prepared and awaiting the rains, the latest seedling support is expected to further strengthen coffee growing in Rukiga and encourage more households to embrace the crop as a sustainable source of income.
