Kampala — Afrigo Band musician Matovu Moses was killed in the early hours of Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Kibuli Depot in Makindye Division, Kampala, following a confrontation involving a man reportedly linked to his girlfriend.
According to preliminary reports, Moses had gone to the residence of his girlfriend at around 5:30 a.m. As the two were leaving the house, they were allegedly confronted by a male suspect believed to have previously been in a relationship with the same woman.
The confrontation reportedly turned violent, leaving Moses with serious injuries. He was rushed to Kibuli Hospital by a boda boda rider but later succumbed to his injuries.
Police have confirmed the arrest of the alleged girlfriend, whose identity has not been disclosed. She was reportedly in the company of Moses when the incident occurred and remains in police custody as detectives continue investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
The male suspect has reportedly been identified and is believed to have fled the scene. Police are pursuing him as they work to establish what exactly led to the fatal confrontation.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachel Kawala said the female suspect remains in custody and is assisting detectives with the ongoing investigation. Police are also working to apprehend the male suspect and establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and allow investigators to conduct their work without interference. Police say all necessary steps are being taken to establish the facts and bring those responsible to account.
Matovu Moses was a member of Afrigo Band, one of Uganda’s longest-serving and most celebrated musical groups. The band has played a significant role in shaping Uganda’s music industry over several decades.
His death has sent shockwaves through Uganda’s entertainment industry, with fellow musicians, fans and members of the public mourning his death and calling for justice as investigations continue.
