RUKIGA — Rukiga District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe, is set to launch the “Emikono Yeitu” Skilling Programme, an initiative aimed at equipping residents with practical skills to support self-employment and household income generation.
The programme will officially be launched on 21 September 2026 at Kyerero Playground in Bukinda Sub-county, with residents from different parts of Rukiga expected to attend.
The initiative will begin with training in several practical areas, including mushroom growing, bakery, soap making, shoe making, crafts and financial literacy.
According to the organisers, the programme is designed to provide residents, particularly young people and other community members seeking opportunities, with hands-on skills that can be turned into small businesses and sources of income.
The programme comes at a time when unemployment and limited income-generating opportunities remain challenges for many communities, making practical skills development an important part of efforts to promote household economic empowerment.
Hon. Alinaitwe’s initiative is expected to focus on practical training that can enable beneficiaries to start or improve small-scale enterprises using locally available opportunities and resources.
Residents and community leaders in Rukiga have welcomed the programme, describing skills development as an important avenue for strengthening self-reliance and creating income opportunities at grassroots level.
The launch of “Emikono Yeitu” is expected to mark the beginning of a wider skills-development drive intended to reach communities across Rukiga District.
