BUDADIRI EAST, UPPER ELGON —The Budadiri East Member of parliament Hon. Nakiyi Julius has embarked on fulfilling his campaign promises with the construction of a public toilet at Wakanyasi Trading Centre in Elgon Sub-county, Upper Elgon, Budadiri East, in a move aimed at improving sanitation and public health in the community.

The project follows a commitment made during his campaigns, when residents of Wakanyasi Trading Centre appealed for the construction of a public toilet to improve access to basic sanitation services. Nakiyi pledged to address their concern if elected to represent them in Parliament.

Construction of a permanent two-stance public toilet, complete with a urinal, is now underway at the trading centre. The facility is intended to serve residents, traders, visitors and other members of the public who regularly use the busy commercial area.

Once completed, the public toilet will be available for free public use, providing an essential sanitation service to people who visit Wakanyasi Trading Centre for business and other activities. The project is expected to contribute to improved hygiene and a cleaner trading environment.

According to the project timeline, construction is expected to be completed by October 25, 2026, with an official handover scheduled for November 2026. The facility is expected to provide a lasting public amenity for the community once it is commissioned and opened for use.

Access to proper sanitation remains an important public health priority, particularly in rural trading centres where traders, customers and other visitors gather daily. Public toilet facilities help promote hygiene, reduce improper waste disposal and protect the surrounding environment when properly maintained.

The initiative also highlights the importance of translating campaign commitments into practical development projects. By responding to concerns raised by residents, leaders can help address everyday challenges and improve access to essential public services at the grassroots level.

Nakiyi Julius says his leadership is focused on turning promises into action, one commitment at a time. The Wakanyasi public toilet project is presented as an example of efforts to respond to community needs through practical service delivery.

As construction continues at Wakanyasi Trading Centre in Elgon Sub-county, residents will be looking forward to the completion and official handover of the facility. The project places sanitation, public health and community welfare among the priorities for development in Budadiri East, Upper Elgon.
