SIRONKO — Budadiri East Member of Parliament Julius Nakiyi held a meeting with engineers from the Ministry of Works and Transport to review the progress of the Namagumba–Budadiri–Nalugugu road project and address other critical road infrastructure needs in Sironko District.

The meeting, held at Nakiyi’s office at Parliament on Friday, brought together Ministry engineers supervising the road works, including Eng. James Arinanye and Eng. Alfred Ogik. The engineers presented a status report on the project, which Nakiyi is expected to relay to the people of Sironko.

According to the status report presented during the meeting, construction of the Namagumba–Budadiri–Nalugugu road is expected to be completed by 2028. The project is expected to improve connectivity and ease the movement of people, goods and services across the affected communities.
The meeting also discussed eight kilometres of tourism roads planned for the area. Five kilometres will cover the Nakiwodye–Busulani–Gombe road, while another three kilometres will cover the Busulani–Bumasifa–Legenya road.
The engineers further explained that the Busulani–Bumasifa–Legenya section is expected to be extended using cobblestone technology beyond the initial three kilometres to reach Bunasekye. Subject to availability of resources, the works could subsequently cover the full ring road up to Gombe, linking with the five-kilometre Gombe tarmac road.
Nakiyi also used the meeting to raise concerns over the Sironko River bridge connecting Masaba Sub-county and Bugitimiwa, which has broken down and disrupted movement while reportedly contributing to loss of lives.
The Ministry engineers advised Nakiyi to formally write to the Minister of Works and Transport seeking approval for the reconstruction of the bridge using steel trusses, which they said would provide a suitable solution to the challenge.
Following the advice, Nakiyi has already engaged the Minister of Works and Transport, Hon. Fred Byamukama, over the matter. The Minister has reportedly responded positively, and Nakiyi is proceeding with the formal communication required to advance the proposed intervention.
Nakiyi said he will continue engaging the Ministry and relevant authorities to ensure that the road project, tourism roads and the Sironko River bridge receive the attention they deserve, stressing that improved road infrastructure is critical to the safety, mobility and economic development of communities in Budadiri East and the wider Sironko District.
