Wakiso District Woman MP Betty Ethel Naluyima has highlighted Parliament’s basketball team preparations for the East African Inter-Parliamentary Games scheduled for December 2026, following the team’s participation in the semi-finals of the Speaker’s Tournament.

Naluyima, who is among the legislators taking interest in parliamentary sporting activities, joined fellow members in the build-up to the regional competition as the basketball team took to the court for the semi-final stage.

The tournament provides an opportunity for parliamentary teams to sharpen their skills, improve coordination and strengthen teamwork ahead of the East African Inter-Parliamentary Games.

Naluyima welcomed the participation of the basketball team in the competition, which forms part of efforts to prepare legislators for the forthcoming regional sporting event.

Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa attended the semi-final games as the chief guest, demonstrating the leadership’s involvement in activities that bring legislators together beyond parliamentary debates.

The Speaker’s Tournament offers members of Parliament an opportunity to engage in sports while promoting physical fitness, discipline and unity among legislators.

The East African Inter-Parliamentary Games are expected to bring together lawmakers from across the region to compete in various sporting disciplines and strengthen relations among participating parliaments.

For Uganda’s parliamentary basketball team, the tournament provides a platform to assess its competitive readiness and build momentum ahead of the December games.

Naluyima’s participation in the sporting activities reflects the growing role of sports in parliamentary engagement, with the team expected to continue its preparations as it looks towards the regional competition.
