Mbarara — Isingiro District Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Lilian Ruteraho has called for calm among Ugandans amid growing public concern over the country’s economic situation, reassuring citizens that Government is closely monitoring developments and working on measures to maintain stability.

Ruteraho made the remarks while speaking from the TV West studios during the Akadakaara programme, where she discussed the current economic situation and the concerns being raised by members of the public over the cost of living and prices of essential commodities.

She said the concerns among Ugandans are understandable, but urged the public not to lose hope, noting that economic challenges require patience, proper understanding and coordinated responses rather than panic.

Ruteraho pointed to the recent engagement between Parliament and the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Hon. Henry Musasizi, over the state of the economy and the measures being considered to address the prevailing pressures.

She explained that the Government’s economic management involves a number of measures aimed at protecting stability, supporting economic growth and improving household incomes, urging citizens to give the relevant institutions room to implement the planned interventions.

Ruteraho also encouraged the public to remain confident in the country’s economic direction as Government continues implementing programmes aimed at strengthening economic growth, creating jobs and improving household incomes.

The legislator said the concerns being raised by citizens should continue to receive attention, while also encouraging leaders to help the public understand the steps being taken instead of creating unnecessary fear around the economic situation.

She noted that the current economic pressures require cooperation between Government, Parliament, the private sector and ordinary citizens, particularly through increased production and responsible use of available resources.

Ruteraho therefore appealed to Ugandans to remain calm and optimistic as Government and Parliament continue engaging on the economic situation, saying the country can overcome the current pressures through responsible economic management, continued production and cooperation between leaders and citizens.
