KAMPALA – Kyaka Central Member of Parliament Hon. Tom Bright Amooti has joined senior government officials, parliamentary leaders and other stakeholders in a high-level engagement aimed at discussing durable solutions to challenges facing refugees in Uganda.

The meeting, held at the Marriott Hotel in Kampala, focused on identifying sustainable approaches to refugee protection, welfare, self-reliance and long-term integration into host communities.

Amooti attended the engagement, which was officiated by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa, highlighting the importance of coordinated efforts among government institutions, Parliament and development partners in addressing refugee-related challenges.

The engagement was also attended by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs Rebecca Kadaga, alongside Minister Lillian Aber and other dignitaries and stakeholders.

Amooti’s participation is significant given his involvement in parliamentary discussions concerning refugees and internally displaced persons, particularly in promoting policies that support vulnerable communities.

The discussions come at a time when Uganda continues to face pressure in supporting refugee-hosting communities amid declining international humanitarian funding. The country has increasingly emphasised the need to move beyond emergency assistance towards sustainable livelihoods, economic inclusion and improved service delivery for both refugees and host communities.

The engagement provided an opportunity for leaders and stakeholders to strengthen cooperation and explore practical interventions that can improve the lives of refugees while easing the pressure on communities hosting them.

Amooti’s participation underscores his continued involvement in efforts to address refugee-related challenges and promote sustainable solutions through policy engagement and collaboration with government and development partners.
