KAMPALA, UGANDA — Bugiri District Woman Member of Parliament Eunice Namatende Masanyalaze commended the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Engineering Brigade for its organised operations, discipline and responsiveness to concerns raised by communities during its work in different parts of the country.
Speaking on the floor of the Parliament of Uganda, Masanyalaze said she had witnessed the brigade’s work through her engagements as a member of the Committee on Education and Government Assurance, which enabled her to compare its operations with those of other service providers involved in public projects.
The legislator praised the engineering brigade for what she described as its well-organised and disciplined approach to work. She said the team had demonstrated a willingness to listen to concerns raised by leaders and communities, creating room for dialogue on the challenges affecting project implementation.
Masanyalaze cited engagements with the brigade during activities in western and northern Uganda, where she said leaders had raised concerns about contractors abandoning work. She contrasted those experiences with her assessment of the UPDF Engineering Brigade’s approach to receiving feedback and responding to issues raised by stakeholders.
According to the MP, the brigade’s willingness to listen had helped leaders communicate their expectations and receive commitments on the delivery of projects. She said such engagement was important in ensuring that concerns were addressed and that communities remained informed about the progress of development initiatives.
The Bugiri District representative said her submission was intended to recognise the brigade’s performance and encourage continued cooperation between public institutions, elected leaders and technical teams responsible for implementing government projects.
Masanyalaze also called for continued support for the engineering brigade, describing its members as good performers who deserved recognition for their work. Her remarks highlighted the importance of discipline, organisation and responsiveness in the execution of public assignments.
The MP’s comments placed emphasis on the value of accountability and communication in public project implementation. She indicated that listening to leaders and communities, while responding to their concerns, could help improve working relationships and strengthen confidence in institutions tasked with delivering government programmes.
Her submission in Parliament underscored the need for effective project supervision and cooperation among stakeholders to ensure that public investments achieve their intended objectives. While commending the UPDF Engineering Brigade, the legislator’s remarks also drew attention to the broader challenge of ensuring that contractors and implementing agencies complete projects as expected and remain responsive to the communities they serve.
