IGANGA, UGANDA — The Minister of State for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Hon. David Bahati yesterday evening joined members of Uganda’s Hindu community in Iganga during an ambitious attempt to achieve three Guinness World Records, an event that saw the community receive two certificates in recognition of its achievement.

Bahati’s participation brought government representation to the gathering, which celebrated the Hindu community’s efforts to make its mark through the internationally recognised Guinness World Records initiative. The event also highlighted the contribution of religious communities to Uganda’s cultural and social life.

Speaking about the occasion, Bahati highlighted Uganda’s peace and religious freedom under the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, noting that the country’s environment allows people of different faiths to practise their religions.

The attempt to achieve three Guinness World Records was a major highlight of the gathering, drawing attention to the community’s determination to accomplish an achievement with international recognition. The presentation of two certificates marked a notable outcome of the event, although details of the specific records and certificates were not immediately available.

Bahati’s presence also underscored the importance of recognising Uganda’s religious diversity and encouraging peaceful coexistence among communities with different beliefs. Religious freedom remains an important element in enabling citizens to worship, organise communal activities and preserve their traditions.

Uganda is home to people from different religious backgrounds, including Christians, Muslims, Hindus and other faith communities. Their coexistence contributes to the country’s diverse cultural identity and creates opportunities for cooperation through social, educational and charitable activities.

The gathering in Iganga provided an opportunity for members of the Hindu community to come together in pursuit of a shared goal while showcasing their identity and participation in Uganda’s national life. Such events can also promote cultural awareness and strengthen understanding between people from different backgrounds.

Bahati’s remarks placed emphasis on the connection between peace, religious freedom and the ability of communities to organise activities that reflect their beliefs and aspirations. A peaceful environment enables religious institutions and their members to participate in public life while exercising their constitutional freedoms.

The event concluded with the Hindu community celebrating the outcome of its Guinness World Records attempt, having received two certificates while seeking to achieve three records. Bahati’s participation further highlighted the government’s recognition of religious diversity and the importance of maintaining peace and freedom of worship across Uganda.
