SIRONKO — Budadiri Town Council in Sironko District is set to receive a new 315KVA electricity transformer following nearly two months of power disruption that has affected residents, businesses and other electricity consumers.
The development follows efforts by Julius Nakiyi, Member of Parliament for Budadiri East, to engage the government through the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) to secure a replacement transformer for the area.
The new transformer is expected to address the prolonged electricity outage that began after the previous 100KVA transformer broke down due to overloading, leaving homes and businesses without a reliable power supply.
The replacement transformer has reportedly left UEDCL stores in Lugogo, Kampala, and is being transported to Mbale before proceeding to Sironko District for installation.
The prolonged outage has caused difficulties for local businesses, some of which have suffered losses due to the interruption of electricity services. Residents have also endured inconvenience as they wait for the restoration of power in the town council.
Nakiyi expressed sympathy with business owners affected by the outage and thanked residents for their patience during the period without electricity. He said securing the new transformer was an important step towards addressing the challenges faced by the community.
The new 315KVA transformer is expected to provide greater capacity than the previous 100KVA unit, although the effectiveness of the improvement will depend on proper installation, maintenance and management of electricity demand in the area.
Nakiyi also urged residents to avoid illegal electricity connections, warning that such practices can endanger lives, damage power infrastructure and disrupt electricity supply to other consumers.
The installation of the new transformer is expected to bring relief to residents and businesses in Budadiri Town Council as they look forward to the restoration of electricity. The development also highlights the importance of protecting public infrastructure and ensuring reliable power supply to support local economic activity.
