ARUSHA, TANZANIA — Rubanda District Woman Member of Parliament Evelyne Ninsiima Kikafunda has secured a major international parliamentary responsibility after being appointed to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) High-Level Advisory Group on Countering Terrorism and Violent Extremism.

Ninsiima’s appointment gives her a four-year mandate on the high-level group, placing the Ugandan legislator among parliamentarians entrusted with contributing to global parliamentary efforts to address terrorism and violent extremism.

The development came during the 153rd IPU Assembly in Arusha, Tanzania, which brought together lawmakers from across the world for high-level discussions on governance, peace, security, development and international cooperation.
Ninsiima welcomed the appointment with appreciation, describing the moment as a delightful one and expressing her honour at being given the opportunity to serve on an international platform of such importance.
Her new responsibility comes at a time when terrorism and violent extremism remain major concerns for governments and communities across the world, requiring stronger cooperation, preventive measures and parliamentary action.
Through the advisory group, Ninsiima will have an opportunity to contribute to discussions on how parliaments can strengthen legislation, oversight, international cooperation and community-based approaches aimed at preventing violent extremism and addressing conditions that can fuel terrorism.
The appointment also raises Ninsiima’s profile beyond her representation of the people of Rubanda, giving her an international platform through which she can contribute Uganda’s perspective to global discussions on peace and security.
With the four-year assignment ahead, Ninsiima now takes on a wider parliamentary role, representing not only her constituency but also bringing Uganda’s voice into international efforts aimed at promoting safer communities, stronger cooperation and a coordinated response to terrorism and violent extremism.
