KAZO DISTRICT – The Minister of State for Industry, Hon. David Bahati, has inspected land in Kazo District identified as a potential site for a proposed Egyptian industrial and economic zone, in a move aimed at advancing Uganda’s industrialisation agenda.

Bahati conducted the inspection alongside the State House Comptroller, Ms. Jane Barekye, following discussions held at State House with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Egyptian investors over the proposed investment.

In an update shared on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Bahati said the inspection marked another step towards progressing the proposed Egyptian investment in Uganda.

The proposed industrial and economic zone is expected to support Uganda’s manufacturing sector, promote value addition, create employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth.
Bahati said the investment would contribute to the country’s industrialisation agenda by expanding productive capacity and strengthening Uganda’s efforts to develop a self-sustaining economy.
The inspection follows engagements between President Museveni and the Egyptian investors, during which the proposed investment was discussed as part of efforts to attract strategic foreign capital into the country.
The Minister said the government, under the National Resistance Movement (NRM), remained committed to facilitating strategic investments capable of creating economic opportunities and supporting national development.
The proposed project, if successfully concluded and implemented, could position Kazo District as a potential destination for industrial development while contributing to Uganda’s wider economic transformation ambitions.
Bahati’s inspection signals continued engagement between government officials and the prospective investors as discussions move towards identifying a suitable location for the proposed industrial and economic zone.
