KAMPALA – Dr. Lakisa Mercy Faith, Uganda’s Minister of State for Gender, Labour and Social Development in charge of Youth and Children Affairs and Woman Member of Parliament for Alebtong District, has participated in a high-level institutional consultation ahead of the Africa Governance Report 2027.

The consultation, held at Imperial Hotel, brought together the National Planning Authority (NPA) and the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) National and Continental Secretariats to discuss governance priorities and preparations for the forthcoming report.

The engagement was conducted under the theme “Youth Leadership in Entrepreneurship, Industry, and the Public Sector,” highlighting the importance of involving young people in leadership, economic development and public administration.

The discussions focused on refining policy frameworks and expanding strategic opportunities for young people across Africa, particularly in entrepreneurship, industry and public service.

Dr. Lakisa expressed gratitude to the leadership of the NPA and APRM Secretariats for championing youth empowerment and promoting meaningful participation in governance and development processes.

She emphasised that empowering young people through inclusive leadership and stronger public-private partnerships remains essential to achieving sustainable socio-economic development.

The consultation also underscored the importance of institutionalised leadership and collaborative approaches in creating opportunities for young people to contribute to Africa’s development agenda.

As Uganda’s minister responsible for Youth and Children Affairs, Dr. Lakisa’s participation reflects the importance of youth-focused policies in shaping governance and development priorities at both national and continental levels.

The Africa Governance Report 2027 is expected to provide a platform for examining governance challenges and identifying strategies to promote inclusive leadership, accountability and long-term socio-economic prosperity across the continent.
